Is Movie Going Dying?

Back in the old days, where we used to gather every after Christmas with family to watch the latest films that Metro Manila Film Fest has to offer. We have a mini get together with cousins and relatives and decide on what the family would want to watch.

I remember lining up for hours just to enter the cinema and we would wait for so long, but as years pass by it decreases year by year.
According to the recent talk that I went on to, there were quite some factors which are leading to the death of the cinema. One, because of the burst of online streaming and video on demand, even television is now slowly dying, if you would actually ask a room full of students this generation on who still goes to the cinemas there are still quite a few depending on their social status, but if you would ask a room full of students who are living on an average filipino family, only few would raise their hand, I guess the percentage of who can afford and those who can’t, matters as well.

Watching movies is solely for entertainment as what some of the speakers said, if you’re really doing it for art you won’t really earn money from it because it is also a business, it has to earn one way or another. Given the example of Vice Ganda’s films. They aren’t totally good, basing it on its story line or even with its film elements but it is one of the films out there that earns because people like to be entertained. Even my own Dad don’t watch movies in the cinemas even if I ask him, it's also a matter of choice and age factor as well.
Other factors like traffic, spending money in other things before and after watching a movie also adds to the all in all budget of a family or a single person. It is like an occasion. Given a chance to watch movies online on a single snap makes it even more effective because it saves a lot of time and money, like for example netflix. You only have to pay a certain amount of money every month to keep on watching their series or different types of films that they have to offer anytime, in your own convenience. May it be your old favorite throwback movies to the latest ones. It is slowly dying, no one can deny that, but it surely won’t ever be replaced or die totally maybe it just have to improve or make a slight change to get itself back on tracks.
